The Castel del Monte, built in Apulia in the 13th century, seems to radiate a fascination for artists: various musicians have already found inspiration in the eight sided building, and lastly the saxophonist Knut Rössler and the lutenist Johannes Vogt moved there. Together with the soprano singer Ute Kreidler and in the castle’s courtyard they used songs of the Hohenstaufen dynasty as source material for their album “Octagon”. What developed was a suggestive connection of ancient music and jazz, of art song and folklore: The musicians show the material their respect by developing it further, improvising with it, and in this way getting to its core. Meditative simplicity, that can enchant and yet bears enough inner suspense Jazzthing wrote. It is clear that such work needs a special performance hall: the Lobenfeld Monastery with which Enjoy Jazz has won another charming venue where music and location atmospheres can magically melt together.
