“Contemporary Classical” – During the last years this term has developed into a label for musicians whose compositions genuinely combine classical, electronic and improvised music whilst maintaining distance to the classic music industry and the jazz scene. An important junction for this scene is the label “Erased Tapes” in London and Berlin, where, according to founder of the label Robert Raths, it is possible to creatively overcome oppositions between the electronic and acoustic or digital and analogous. And Icelandic Ólafur Arnalds programmatically adds that from an instrumental perspective, categorising music into serious music and pop music is irrelevant anyway. “Erased Tapes” stands for courageous, experimental, open and, for the most part, eminently beautiful sound explorations into musical border zones. In celebration of its fifth birthday, the label sends three of its most renowned acts from the catalogue on tour together: Nils Frahm, who as a pianist sees himself more influenced by Arvo Pärt and Keith Jarrett than by Erik Satie; Ólafur Arnalds, who gladly lets you look over his shoulder while composing his electronic chamber music - and Adam Wiltzie and Dustin O´Halloran from United States, who as ‘A Winged Victory For The Sullen’ create atmospheric sound landscapes unparalleled by others.
