What’s going on in London? In England and especially the capital things are heating up for jazz music. Maybe it’s because of the social tensions in the kingdom that inspire the musicians. In the last years Enjoy Jazz has been keeping an eye on the new UK-Jazz-Community; in the edition of the festival you could almost speak of a British invasion. One of the new stars is Ashley Henry. The classic piano-trio is in focus for him but is regularly extended – by the trumpets Keyon Harrold and Theo Croker, the singers Judi Jackson and Cherise Adams Burnett or old master Jean Toussaint. You can tell that the young pianist is influenced by legends like Herbie Hancock and Ahmad Jamal, also concerning his talent of designing catchy melodies; but also contemporaries like Robert Glasper or Christian Scott who not only make use of jazz but also hip-hop and electronic club music. The heterogenic, the contemplation of sounds and narrative of different countries plays an important role in the scene. Very diverse and essential at the same time.
