It is almost exactly five years ago that Anja Lechner and Francois Couturier performed their successful duet “Moderato Cantabile” at the Karlstorbahnhof. The programme at the time already described the two musicians as regular guests of Enjoy Jazz. Lechner had played at the side of Dino Saluzzi and Vassilis Tsabropoulos; Couturier was a celebrated member of the Anour Brahem Quartet. Their joint projects have included the Tarkovsky Quartet and “Il Pergolese”. They now return with a new programme “Lontano” which is dedicated to compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Henri Dutilleux, Giya Kancheli, Anouar Brahem and Couturier himself. It dares to venture into Argentinean folklore with free improvisations. Their previous programme “Moderato Cantabile” was a harmonious compilation of folklore from the Black Sea region and Federico Mompou’s miniatures from the Catalans. This broad scope works very well for these two well-acquainted musicians.
