Thomas Stabenow and Holger have invited very special guests for their fifth edition of “New Jazz Voices”. Pianist and composer Niko Meinhold and vocalist and composer Efrat Alony are adventurous and love to cross boundaries. They both studied at the “Hanns Eisler” Music School in Berlin and have had longstanding successful careers with all sorts of distinctions. Both have taught, or are still teaching, at the Universities of Rostock und Bern and both were born in 1975. Efrat Alony was born in Israel and became known through projects like “alony”. In 2004, the newspaper “Nürnberger Zeitung” wrote “She is, perhaps, the best jazz singer we currently have in Germany”. She says, a little cheekily, she makes “pop music”, though. Critics once described Efrat Alony as “untameable”. She is unpredictable, moving along the boundaries of jazz singing/song writing, electronic and chamber music. She recently engaged with the “Great European Songbook”, with compositions by Georg Friedrich Händel and Johann Sebastian Bach. On the trio album “A Kit for Mending Thoughts”, you can read: „Listen with Care. Slow Food for your Ears”. This is good advice, we think!
