An accordion and acoustic guitar duo is not unusual in folk music traditions. However, it is in jazz, improvised music and bordering genres. Accordionist Jean-Louis Matinier, at the side of Francois Couturier, Anja Lechner and Anouar Brahem, met classically trained French guitarist Kevin Seddiki a good decade ago. They played together in quintet and trio formations and then decided to explore the orchestral potential of playing duo. The result is a charming musical dialogue with antennae reaching into all directions. The album “Rivages” was released in early summer and it includes classics like “Greensleeves”, improvisations of Robert Schumann and compositions by Gabriel Fauré and soundtracks by Philippe Sarde. The two musicians describe their intensive graceful dialogue as “cosmopolitan chamber music”.
