An astonishing beginning: at the age of 16, in the early 80s, Silje Nergaard became a star in her home country overnight: at that time, she spontaneously boarded the stage of the Molde International Jazz Festival and performed with the Jaco Pastorius Band. Because there was a well-known jazz critic in the audience, the whole of Norway knew the next day - an extraordinary talent had just attracted attention. Pat Metheny became her mentor and got her her first recording contract. Exactly 30 years ago, Silje Nergaard's debut album was released - "Tell Me Where You're Going" was the prelude to a remarkable international career. This anniversary is now an occasion for the Norwegian singer and composer to take stock: with the double album "Japanese Blue/Hamar Railway Station" and a tour. Together with the pianist Espen Berg, whom Nergaard appreciates for his versatile, "narrative" playing, she has chosen some of her own pieces as well as a few classics from her rich archive and broken them down to their essence: only with her floating, almost gentle voice does she create a variety of moods; even the most complex melody lines have an enchanting lightness with her - her expressiveness arises from silence, not from forced ostentation. This is perhaps particularly evident in this intimate constellation. So what awaits us on this evening: Pure Silje Nergaard, without any frills.
