Alongside shock and paralysis, Donald Trump’s presidency also unleashed creativity: It may sound paradox, but the fight against treachery can produce beauty and empathy as it did with Indra Rios-Moore. She is the daughter of a Puerto Rican social worker and the jazz bassist Don Moore. She did not grow up on Park Avenue in New York and is a member of those groups of people Trump looks down on. Fear and protest arose in her when he was elected and the choice of her songs on her most recent album “Carry My Heart” (2018) make a statement: “Keep on Pushing” by Curtis Mayfield and “Any Major Dude” by Steely Dan. Be it pop, soul or jazz, her own compositions or others, Indra Rios-Moore has for years succeeded in singing every song as if she is telling a story that is just being created- She started singing as a child and was accepted at Mannes College for Music at age 13. Later, while working in a bar in Brooklyn, she met her future husband: Danish saxophonist Benjamin Trærup. She left the USA, played with Danish musicians; her first albums were celebrated; she went back to America to record “Heartland” (released 2015 on Impulse!) with Larry Klein, and now lives with her family in Europe. She is a cosmopolite and a singer the world needs.

The concert is partially seated.
