They have known each other for over 50 years. At the time, young Joachim Kühn was visiting New York for the first time and listened to Archie Shepp live at the Village Vanguard. Many years later, he remembers this “unbelievable” event: The music and energy were overwhelming. Ever since then he has known that he would be spending his life listening to Archie Shepp. Which his only half the truth because they were already also jamming together at the time. And the musical friendship brought forth the joint albums “Voodoo Sense” (2013) with Kühn’s “Wüstenjazztrio” and “Wo!Man” in duo recording in 2011. At a concert at the time, Wolfgang Sandner spoke of a “revelation”. Shepp and Kühn drew on such an immense wealth of experience and knowledge that they could fully devote themselves to their intuition and partner. Shepp once said that him and Kühn are stablemates. Considering that one is from Leipzig and the other from Ford Lauderdale, one could certainly say that they have crossed oceans.
The concert is seated.
