There is a reason why Enjoy Jazz has the subtitle “International festival for jazz and more”: the programme reflects the diversity of musical expression and traditions. And the organisers feel connected to other festival organiser worldwide. This connectedness has been beautifully fruitful: since last year, Enjoy Jazz has been the official European partner festival of “Festival Internacional Jazz Plaza Havana” and Cuban saxophonist Michel Herrera and pianist Jorge Luis Pacheco were guests Enjoy Jazz last year, upon the recommendation of “Jazz Plaza”. In 2017, this collaboration is being continued with the Prado Jazz Club, a remarkable quartet at the centre of which are pianist Alejandro Falcón and trumpeter Mayquel González. They are amongst the most exiting musicians in the current Cuban scene. González, 36 years old, has played in Harold López-Nussa and Chucho Valdez’s bands. Falcón, also 36, has made himself a name not only as a pianist but also as a composer and producer. They combine Latin American and Afro-Cuban style motives with jazz elements in a fascinating way. They are supported by an impressive rhythm group: percussionist Inor Sotolongo and Yasser Pino on bass are two extremely versatile and technically superb musicians. This evening, Heidelberg will transform into a vibrating Havana suburb.
