Kamasi Washington’s “Heaven And Earth” was released in spring 2018 and got astounding media coverage. There were stories about the renaissance of the L.A. scene, about the basement studio “The Shack” in which a group of young people who were crazy about jazz and hip hop called themselves West Coast Get Down and jammed together for many years, about the breakthrough of “To Pimp A Butterfly” with Kendrick Lamar, about Washington’s “The Epic” (2016). All these stories already existed in 2016, but in 2018 they were everywhere. Even in places that are usually not interested in improvised music. Is jazz now a pop phenomenon? Last year, the concert was cancelled due to illness, but this year Enjoy Jazz is proud to present the creative Ex-The Shack West Coast Get Down with superstar Kamasi Washington. Trombonist Ryan Porter is the bandleader. He released “The Optimist” around the same time as Washington. It goes back to the year 2008 and presents the young musicians who love to mix soul jazz, funk, R& B hip hop and hard bop. This concert promises to beam the legendary “The Shack spirit” into the present!
The concert is not seated.
